Nazi Genocide

"The things I saw beggar description. ..the visual evidence and the
verbal testimony of starvation, cruelty and bestiality were so
overpowering. I made the visit deliberately, in order to be in a
position to give first hand evidence of these things if ever, in the
future, there develops a tendency to charge these allegations to
propaganda.

Hi,

Of course I have to say how cool your web sight is, found it in
Cool sight.

I have a friend that was homeless and rode old dirtyface for
quite a few years. I had a hankering to do it, but never could
find anyone to do it with. I may try it, thanks to you, I
suppose there are a lot of folk out there now, seems a
different place than Kerouacs day, but on the other hand, it's
still the same. My friend told me to catch trains on curves
because they have slowed down pretty well.

I wonder how many hobos are still out there? How do they feel
about the folks who "opt" for a fringe travel?

Again, super page, apleasure to look through!

America's most wanted train bum?
This police artist sketch has been issued to all Union Pacific special agents, using information supplied by abominous source.

Note the Bright Eyes, Nose ring, cell phone, vidio camera, and credit card, for bailing herself out of jail if captured.

is a known con artist, and is known to be husteling "production funds" for "Hobo Jungles" (a film advocating illegal trespassing on freight trains) from television pre-sales, public grants, private foundations, and conning donations from individuals. The subject hustled a $4,000 grant from the King County Arts Commission and a $500 grant from the Puffin Foundation.

The money hungry subject also intends to bilk the Artist Trust, Allied Arts, the Seattle Arts Commission, the Pioneer Fund, the Kongsgaard-Goldman Foundation, and the Titcomb Foundation.

The subject also plans to enrich her self with cash from domestic and international television pre-sales. Discovery, PBS, Channel 4, BBC, Canal Plus, and ZDF are viable funding options.

Subject has a history of arrest, and reckless disregard for the safety of minor children, who she has lured into trespassing on intermodal freight trains!

But if you cut some people who, don't want to cause trouble some slack, you have to come down twice as hard on the real trouble makers. I mean with these hobo celebrities that still plaster their pictures, riding up on freight trains, all over magazines, and web sites, and T.V shows.

They figure they can get away with it. But they figure that the special agents can't beat the shit out of them and get away with it.

Did you ever think the F.T.R.A is getting tired of being the boogey men, That is supposed to be you guys, the special agents job and, maybe it's you bulls turn to start pulling your weight.

I will tell you a law of street justice, someone does something, and you ask the criminal justice system to do something about it, but they will not do it.

That means if you go and pay them back yourself, chances are that the criminal justice system still will not do anything about it.

So maybe you Special Agents should go back to the old school; you catch some of these hobo celebrities, who put their pictures in magazines and newspapers, who star in TV shows, and put up stupid web sites, and jet to your train yard, credit card in hand ready to bail them selves out of jail if they are caught, maybe you should think about beating the fuck out of them, and then shutting them up in a car and sending them to the next yard, 12 hours away. That would put the fear of god into them.

As you are beating the shit out of them, or as your shutting them up inside a boxcar, and they are telling you how they will sue, maybe laugh and tell them,"That is OK, we get sued every day, by people with a lot more money and power than you; it will drag through the courts for years, you will never get a dime!"

Look at if from a risk management perspective, if you kick some celebrity hobo ass, and shut them up in a car for awhile, yes they will sue, but if you don't kick their asses, some poor kid is going to see the media content they create, and wind up trying to jump on a moving train, not knowing what he is doing, get killed and his poor mother is going to sue you.

So you're screwed if you do kick their asses, and you're screwed if you don't. It just boils down to a question of who you want dragging you through the courts for years.

And being media, they will scream bloody murder about what cruel brutal mother fuckers you are. Stop thinking of this as a publicity liability and start thinking of it as an asset.

When you're kicking their asses, be sure to borrow their cameras, and shoot some video of it. I can see it now.

I was busted last Saturday in Oakland after a trip up the coast from Oxnard.

Here's the story:

San Luis's Crew Hops a Piggy Back
We were riding a piggy only three cars back from the units, admittedly our first mistake...in fact, I had initially refused to take the ride. Our train stopped briefly in San Jose. I advocated detraining in order to take CalTrains, but for various reasons we remained on our piggy. Two strikes in the poor judgement department and definitely lessons learned.

In any event, our train kept a steady pace from San Jose into Oakland, but we slowed just south of Jack London Square. This time when I suggested that perhaps we should bail before riding into the yard in our visible position near the units, my companions agreed with me.

The train was moving at the speed of a casual jog as we tossed our packs off and then jumped off one at a time. Jessica jumped off facing out away from the train. She tumbled and fell. I hopped off last and quickly ran back toward Jessica to make sure that she was OK. She bashed her knee pretty good and hit her head. She was in pain, but, luckily, not seriously injured.

We waited for Jessica to regain her composure as the end of the train snaked past. When I was sure that she was OK, I walked up toward an intersection to get my bearings and saw a city cop waiting on the other side of the train. We all gathered our things and quickly walked the other direction. But it was too late.

The cop turned on his lights and we stopped obediantly and dropped our bags. The officer was stern but reasonable. He asked for ID's and as he ran them another officer arrived. They asked us informal questions which we answered honestly and politely. Then a Sargeant arrived. Big bummer because this old-timer had attitude and clearly wanted to teach us a lesson (or something).

Soon we were cuffed and split in pairs in the back of two patrol cars. Our officer (2nd to arrive on the scene) was actaully a nice guy. He told us that if it were up to him, he would have let all of us walk away. But, he also mentioned that the Sarg was bad news for us. We asked what was likely to happen, and he replied that first the Sarg was contacting UP. Meanwhile, we found out that our two other companions had warrants (minor-in-possession and fare evasion on BART) and they were definitely going downtown.

UP never replied. The Sarg took out some handbook and casually flipped the pages. Our officer told us that the Sarg was looking for something to book us on. At one point when our officer got in the driver's seat, I asked if we were going somewhere and he replied "Not yet." I asked if we were under arrested and he answered "You could say that you are under arrest." He started asking questions and filling out paperwork. Then the Sarg signalled to him outside and the three officers had a meeting.

When our officer walked back to the car, he ripped up the paperwork he had started and told us that the Sarg changed his mind. We would be cited and released and the others would be booked. So he handed us our citations (Violation 587(b)) and we gathered our bags and walked down to the Oakland Jail to meet our friends. Turns out one of them was processed that afternoon, but the other spent the night in an overcrowded holding cell, sleeping on the floor.

That's pretty much the story. Wish that things had happened differently, but I guess it all boils down to a bad coincidence.

COMMENT:
Possibly the only reason OPD even stopped your group, was that about one week earlier, a young girl and her friends were headed home from school, only to be stopped by a very long freight train blocking there path. Since the train wasn't moving they all felt safe to cross between the freight cars. 2 of the group made it, the third one did not. While crossing over, her clothing somehow got entangled as the train began to learch forward. They recovered her body around 65th Ave.(about 4-5 blocks from where they orginally crossed. (I'm SURE that Union Pacific made quite a bit of noise about trespassers to OPD after that incident:

Melody Danridge, 14, of Daly City decided to spend a day of her spring break with friends in Oakland Thursday. Her visit ended tragically when she was run over and killed by a freight train as she tried to slip between two boxcars.

Yesterday, family members mourned the death of a lively eighth-grader who loved to sing, shop with friends and volunteer at an elementary school near her home.

Relatives couldn't figure out why Melody and her two friends clambered between two cars of a 64-car Union Pacific train heading from Oakland to Stockton about 1 p.m.

After Hitler's seizure of power in 1933, the Nazis conducted a
campaign to "purge" German society. Those who could not be integrated
into the new state were removed; German concentration camps became the
repository for all "socially undesirable" elements, including
communists, socialists, liberals, pacifists, homosexuals, the mentally
retarded, and gypsies. Himmler's SS, to which the Gestapo was
subordinated, became responsible for this process. Arrests were
eventually extended to include Jews, a small minority, which had been
made a scapegoat for Germany's problems.

Anti-Semitism, which had been emphasized by Austrian and German
conservative political parties since the late nineteenth century,
assumed a radical form under the Third Reich. The Aryan Paragraph of
1933 decreed that Jews could not hold civil service positions. The
Nuremberg Laws of 1935 legalized racist antiSemitism , deprived Jews
of the right to citizenship, and restricted relationships between
"Aryans" and Jews. These laws did, however, initially reduce random
acts of violence against Jews on the streets. By 1938 Jews were not
permitted to change their names and were restricted in their freedom
of movement. After the Kristallnacht (Crystal Night) of November 9,
1938, during which acts of violence were perpetrated by Nazis against
Jews in all parts of Germany, the persecution of Jews entered a new
phase: random acts of violence were replaced by the systematic
elimination of the Jewish population in Germany, numbering about
600,000 at that time.

During World War II, the SS filled the concentration camps with
foreign nationals, Russian prisoners of war, and non-German Jews.
After 1941 the number of camps and inmates increased more rapidly when
the SS began to create extermination camps. NonJewish prisoners were
assigned to forced labor and/or designated for liquidation; but the
"final solution," the Nazi euphemism for genocide, called for the
extermination of every Jew. Himmler's Special Duty Section
(Sonderdienst- -SD) took charge of the extermination camps. The SS
carried out extermination by working victims to death, physical
torture, medical experimentation, mass shootings, and gassing. The
tempo of the mass murder of Jewish men, women, and children was
accelerated toward the end of the war. Hitler's preoccupation with the
"final solution" was so great that the transport of Jews was at times
given preference over the transport of war matériel. Some authorities
estimated that 6 million European Jews became victims of the
Holocaust. A large number (4,565,000) of these victims came from
Poland and the Soviet Union; about 125,000 German Jews were exterminated.

Napa State Hospital - An American Nightmare (A Media Information Database)
by Wes Penre and Wayne Morin Jr.
(Posted here: May 27, 2005 and on)

Wes Penre, 2005

The horrors in the field of psychiatry never stop shocking me. I have
researched psychiatry since the 1980's, and for years and years the
truth about this pseudo-science has been suppressed by the Media.
Fortunately, when the Internet users increased rapidly in the 90's,
people could start reading about the misfortunate patients in the
mental hospitals around the world. Only recently, mostly because of
inmates and researchers who have pushed the issue over and over, even
the main stream media have started exposing some of it.

A while ago I decided to look deeper into one of the American
psychiatric hospitals with the intention to expose the murders, rapes,
drug abuse and violence that I know is taking place in there, and I
chose to look into the NAPA State Hospital outside Sacramento in
California. I got to know a wonderful person who has been a patient
there for years and years and who also has become a very, very good
friend. His name is Wayne Morin Jr., and he has helped me tremendously
with exposing psychiatry. And who could have helped me better? He has
first hand information, because he has been locked up at NAPA for 18
years. I described the conditions at NAPA in my article, Sexual Abuse
and Mind Control at Napa State Hospital (April 27, 2005), and his own
story can be read here: Mind Control Manipulation - A Personal Story,
by Wayne Morin Jr. Also, please read the following article closely:
The Weirdest Prison Rules, May 25, 2005, to get the full picture.

Wayne Morin Jr
Wayne Morin Jr (left), Shane Arroyo (right) and David Hoover (below).
Shane, David and Wayne have come a long way. Become best friends, all
three have been
inmates at Napa State Hospital for years and gone through the horrors
together.
David Hoover tragically died in his sleep in
January 2006.

David Hoover

Wayne has been very active in exposing the horrible conditions at the
hospital and has also done an excellent job with gathering information
from the mainstream media, which actually have started covering this
issue, and the truth is finally starting to come out. There is no
longer anyone who can say that the terrible conditions at the hospital
do not exist - the proof is here!

Wayne Morin Jr as a teenager
Wayne Morin Jr as a teenager

The only question is: how long will it take before the hospital is
closed down and all the insane criminals running the facility are
behind bars? And even more important is: how long will it take before
the invisible people in top positions of the society, those who are
behind all this, can be put on trial? Unfortunately, NAPA State
Hospital is only ONE example of how the psychiatric hospitals are run
around the world, and I am sad to say that NAPA is a TYPICAL example.
I strongly advise you to listen to Wayne LIVE at Channel Z, where he
has been interviewed several times. These are the latest talk shows he
participated in: 18 Years in Mental Hospital Part 1, from November 30,
2005, and 18 Years in Mental Hospital Part 2, from December 28, 2005.
By speaking out, Wayne has accomplished a lot. Among other things: The
Department of Justice in Canada has heard the last talkshow on the
XZone Radio (Channel Z, Dec 28, 2005) and is interested in getting
all copies of the older and recent shows on Napa Sate Hospital Wayne
and Lucky Meyer have done! Please take time and listen to those
interviews.

Here below is a huge information database, which covers mainstream
media articles about NAPA State Hospital. As you can see, there is a
lot of information and exposure. I hope you can take the time to read
some of it at least, so you will understand what is going on behind
those locked doors. Hopefully one day people like Wayne Morin Jr. can
see justice being applied and there will be a stop to those incredible
violations on human rights!

Psychiatric Times, June 2003, Vol. XX, Issue 6: Stigma continues
in Hollywood: Negative stereotypes of patients with mental illness
have a long history in Hollywood. Inaccurate portrayals have an
important and underestimated negative effect on the perception of
people with mental disorders--by the public, legislators, families and
patients themselves. In this update of a 1991 presentation given by
Glenn Gabbard, M.D., Irving Schneider, M.D., and myself, I will review
some of the common stereotypes seen in film and television and discuss
several recent films that perpetuate such myths.

Sexual Abuse and Mind Control at Napa State Hospital
- A Personal Story -
by Wes Penre, April 27, 2005
(Posted here: April 27, 2005)

Wes PenreI researched psychiatry long before I started researching the
New World Order; before I even knew what the New World Order was. What
came out of that research was mind-boggling. I thought that
psychiatry, this so-called "science", must be the most vicious
practice on Earth. The history of psychiatry and the evil it has done
to humanity is more than an average person can confront. Little did I
know back then that psychiatry is one of the most important tools for
the Illuminati when they research advanced mind control techniques.
Most of the highest known illuminists are also psychiatrists.

Just recently, when I decided to write some articles on psychiatry, I
accidentally stumbled upon the story of Wayne Morin Jr. I was
searching through the "wayback machine", where you can find websites
that are no longer on the regular Internet. For you who don't know, it
is an archive of old websites that have been taken off the Internet
for one reason or another. I figured that there must be at least a few
good websites that were taken down due to threats from the forces they
intended to expose, and I wanted to find those as they certainly must
have had some good information.

That's where I found the story of Wayne Morin Jr., written by himself.
After had read it, I decided to use it as my first article on
psychiatry. Wayne's case is so typical, just because he was never
heard, never believed, and his website is no longer on the Internet,
although it should be highlighted as one of the most important
websites out there, if there would be any justice in this world.

Mind control. The controversy of what is and what is not mind control
rages on among scholars in the schools of law, human rights and mental
health. An accepted definition is: "psychological manipulation,
thought reform and/or mind manipulation which results in a form of
behavior modification. "

A close scrutiny by the media and public, of one of the biggest
destructive "Murder Industry Cults" is "Murderers of the Mind: The
Awful Truth About Psychology, Psychiatry, and the Mental "Health"
Industry", published by "Citizens Commission on Human Rights
International" . It details an epidemic involving physical and
psychological abuses, supplies and in-depth professional investigation
and would provide the first steps in resolving the rash of problems
that destructive cults, serial killers, sexual child abusers, thrust
upon society. Citizens Commission on Human Rights International (or
CCHR for short) is run by the Church of Scientology, whose doctrine I
am not subscribing to, because the Church has their own reason and
agenda on exposing psychiatry, but that fact does not nullify their
extremely thorough investigation into the subject of psychiatry.
Scientology' s research in this field is very accurate and backed up
with evidence.

Shane Carlos Arroyo and Wayne Morin Jr
Shane Carlos Arroyo (left) and Wayne Morin Jr (right), both former
inmates at Napa State Hospital for years.

As consumers of national news media supplied information, we continued
to accept half-truths, which, in this case scenario, is seeing and
hearing only what results form mass mind manipulation. The Churches in
America are the biggest power base for Mental Health Industry. Secret
Knowledge equals power, with the result being control.

After have researched the field of psychiatry pretty thoroughly, the
following story rings very true. Let me share it with you.

Wayne Morin Jr as a teenager
Wayne Morin Jr as a teenager

When Wayne Morin Jr. wrote his article for the Internet, he had been
locked up since 1987 in a mental hospital for calling in a fake bomb
threat and leaving an egg timer in a grocery store. He also called
the grocery store and told them he placed the fake bomb and gave his
name, home address and phone number. Wayne was at the time he wrote
the article a devoted Christian and said he was facing daily
persecution as a Christian and a political prisoner. He has been in
many magazines, such as Media Bypass; Spotlight; Truth At Last;
Cutting Edge Newsletter, and he has also done a number of radio talk
shows.

Map showing the location of Napa State HospitalHis first admission
at Napa State Hospital was when he was 12 years old, in 1971. He has
had 115 admissions at Napa State Hospital (NSH) since that time, but
all were civil commitments. He explains that his mother, brother, and
sister have all sat around and used marijuana together with his
psyche-tech on a weekend pass. While still accommodated at NSH, at the
ages of 13-16, he was taken to his psyche-tech' s home in Fairfield,
where he used marijuana and Dexedrine, all on weekend passes. There
was another time at NSH when a psyche-tech "fell in love" with him and
they had sex, and he was given Ritalin in injection form.

The Napa Sentinel, a local newspaper, has full knowledge of NSH
past and up-to-date rampant sex abuses and drug use. There was a time
in the 1980's when most of all the psyche staff at NSH used marijuana
and smoked it with the clients there, according to Wayne. This was
during the height of "America's Drug War", and when a person could use
drug (ab)use as a mental illness and furthermore get paid by SSI for
being mentally ill, at $700.00 a month.

During Wayne's 115 admissions as NSH he never had one single
felony charge. His instant offense was committed in 1987, and he was
sentenced only for three years. However, the State never wanted him
released on "outpatient treatment". Why was that? Wayne explains:

"Just look at their jobs being on the line, and how the
psychiatric staff know that the statutes of limitations never run out
on murders and rape, which have occurred in this hospital. Knowledge
is Power, they know this, so by keeping me inside the fence they
maintain their immunity from outside investigation. It is a known fact
that mental health staff as NSH use Gestapo-type tactics and invent
symptoms without evidence in order to delay the discharge of
patients(1). These doctors with The Manor of Napa State
HospitalMaster' s degrees can also be negligent and accessories to
murders and other crimes, who do whatever it takes to cover up both
intentional and unintentional mistakes, as if, in the old lunatic days
of torture and mysterious deaths in the state hospitals seem to be
protected from the law. The same people on patient's treatment team
punish them for any disagreement, trying to defend themselves, and
particularly frown on any complaint to Patient's Rights, if not a
reason for retaliation due to their power and illusion of perfection
being challenged; in a sense they are playing God with people's lives.
Even if an individual staff member knows the claims against a patient
are false they will side with their peers, acting as a fraternity of
control, under the guise of hospital policy. This form of racket
contradicts the entire concept of people with a diagnosed mental
illness being treated and recovering for return to the community,
especially for people as myself, who was drunk when committing a crime
which was not that serious. Instead, we have psychiatrists and
psychologists acting like prosecutors who in reality answer to nobody,
and whose main remedy to alleged symptoms is to increase a patient's
medication, do anything about their situation, so they give up trying
to fight."

Wayne Morin Jr
Wayne Morin Jr (left), Shane Arroyo (right) and David Hoover (below).
Shane, David and Wayne have come a long way. Become best friends,
all three have been
inmates at Napa State Hospital for years and gone through the
horrors together.
David Hoover tragically died in his sleep in
January 2006.

David Hoover

Wayne is a political prisoner who should have been released to a
group home years ago. He says he needs assistance from an organization
to provide counsel and assistance for his legal release. He states
that he has a lot of stories to tell about what is going on at NSH,
and he would not hesitate taking a lie detector test. Not that he
needs to, the evidence is overwhelming, and some of it is even in the
mainstream media(2).

In Memorial:
Anna Caroline Jennings (1960 - 1992)

Anna Jennings

Anna Jennings was sexually abused when she was less than three
years old. This was the first of several abuses that occurred over her
lifetime, and put a confused, frightened child into a mental health
system that neither recognized nor treated Anna's real problem.
Diagnosed "schizophrenic" .. she was institutionalized for more than 12
years from age 15 to 32. Although she attempted to communicate the
"awful things" that had happened to her, there was no one to listen,
understand or help her.

She took her life on October 24, 1992, on a back ward of a state
mental hospital [which was in fact Napa State Hospital, editor's
note]. Please take some time and go to Anna's Memorial Page and read
about this young woman, whom Wayne met at Napa, but never got to know
too well. He just remembers she was a very nice person: The Anna
Foundation Organization.

Footnotes:

(1) This is very true, and I am aware of this from my own
research. And worse than that; top psychiatrists are inventing new
mental illnesses during their board meetings in order to get more
resources and financial aid, and to push new or more drugs into the
society. They literally VOTE by majority votes what will become a
mental illness and what will not, without any scientific backup.
However, behind all this hides a more vicious reason; the Illuminati
want to declare most of the population mentally ill and have the new
illnesses they invent recorded so that they can be used against the
citizens when necessary, to lock people in. This is particularly
convenient if they want to lock in people who oppose their New World
Order. In the early 90's it was even mentioned in the mainstream media
how psychiatrists wanted to declare "Pre-menstrual Symptoms" as a
mental illness.

(2) Since I wrote this article, me and Wayne have become good
friends, and if you want to e-mail him in person, his e-mail address
is waynemorinjr@ comcast.net. Also, Shane C. Arroyo, another good
friend of Wayne's (see photo above), has gone through similar
experiences. You may contact him as well at thescarroyopad@ sbcglobal. net.

On Napa State Hospital. Unfortunately, this hospital is only one
of hundreds sharing the same kind of problems - problems that are
systematically created. I chose to expose this particular hospital to
show an example of how mental health works on a much larger scale than
in one specific location. This is a typical institution.

To show you what a living hell the patients are living in, I have
created a data base of information, covering NAPA State Hospital only.
The abuses there have been covered frequently by the mainstream media
and we hope and pray that something will be done about it. If there is
anything you can do to help out, it is appreciated beyond words. For

Napa State Hospital. Wayne and I also created a database with an
enormous amount of links to mainstream media, which also have exposed
the horrors at Napa Psychiatric State Hospital.

Letter:

Wayne Morin JrA friend at the State Hospital had three months left. He
has been locked up fifteen years for calling in a false bomb threat in
1987 and leaving his name and address. He was transferred to an open
unit, which the State calls "Survivor Island", where anyone can be
voted out. He stays in good contact with hospital police since his
first admission was at the age of twelve, when his mother tied a
clothesline around his waist and drove him up to the State. At that
time the State would accept anyone. He had no mental illness. Since
then he has had 115 admissions; all "civil commitments" - but no
charges were brought against him until 16 years ago.

This is a true story of life-long unjust law enforcement, court
systems, etc.

Most of those who are now police were at one time kitchen help,
janitors, ground-patrol - so he knew them well.

On a radio talk-show with Harry Martin(1), he exposed sex, drugs and
alcohol brought in by workers at Napa State Hospital. Well, while he
was on Survivor Island T-15, he was in a five-man room. From the first
day he arrived on the unit, he started to beg to be returned to a
locked unit instead. He knew by experience that this was a setup for
him. Behavioral psychology teaches us that control of the human by
suggestibility is recognized as the fundamental building block for
external control of the mind.

An intergenerational Satanist broke his jaw on Survival Island. From
the first week he arrived, he had five late-check-ins, for any of
which he could have been thrown out of T-15.

Room mates spoke about that person [the Satanist] talking all night
long about himself growing horns and a tail and selling his soul to
the company store.

The next week they gave my friend a urine test and told him it was
"dirty", and had a large amount of "weed" [marijuana]. The unit called
a ward government meeting to expose him and to ask anyone who knew of
any drug usage to feel free to speak confidentially to the staff. For
the next week he was shunned by every staff member except one: "Just
tell us where you buy the weed. Who are you getting it from?"

My friend's family members were in shock. They knew he was only three
months from going home. He filed a complaint to leave the unit and
kept to his story about not using weed.

Napa State Hospital ManorThen came a shake-down. After the search,
[the Satanist] broke my friend's jaw. It took a plate and 15 screws.
My friend was asked what happened. He told me that due to [fear of]
retaliation, he said he slipped in the tub. They asked everyone to
come forth with any knowledge. My room mates said they knew nothing,
which also proves injustices. My friend was transferred to a medical
unit for surgery and his jaws were wired shut for three weeks.

There was a big drug bust. They found lots of weed, speed and homebrew.

The [Satanist] was transferred. On his second night there, he and a
buddy took a female worker hostage and removed her keys and fled to
the grounds of the prison. When it comes to a person that knows there
are killers, rapists, child molester and intergenerational Satanists,
[every person] should sing like a canary.

There is little good news for some homeless
By John Hall (12/6/03)
Texas Baptists feed and clothe thousands of
homeless daily. They regularly provide job
training and emergency shelter to hundreds
statewide.

But Baptists cannot offer many homeless what they
say they are looking for -- the good news of
getting off the streets.

According to statistics from the National
Resource Center on Homelessness and Mental
Illness web site, there are about 800,000
homeless people on a given night in the United
States. An estimated 10 percent of that number is
consider chronically homeless, living without a
home for up to eight months in a two-year period.

That 10 percent of homeless individuals accounts
for up to 50 percent of those seeking emergency
shelter.

On top of their lack of shelter, two-thirds of
the homeless population reported either substance
use and/or mental health problems. Broken down
further, 38 percent indicated alcohol issues, 26
percent said they have drug problems and 39
percent told of some form of mental health
problems.

Up to 25 percent of the homeless population meets
the criteria of having “serious mental health
issues,” compared to four percent of the U.S.
population with similar conditions.

As high as 50 percent of homeless people have
both mental illness and substance abuse issues.
Among the most common illnesses are chronic
depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and
personality disorders.

This group with mental illness and substance
abuse issues tends to be the most visible,
according to Jimmy Dorrell, executive director of
Mission Waco. They can commonly be seen raising
their hands in the air as they walk around town,
talking to themselves or behaving in other
eccentric ways.

Their journey toward homelessness tends to begin
when they either lose their job or have
low-paying position, and can no longer afford
medicine to curtail their mental illness, he
said. They lose their financial stability and
become homeless.

Others become addicted to alcohol or drugs and
alienate their support group, lose their job and
become homeless, Dorrell added.

Because of their issues, they cannot hold down
steady jobs, Dorrell reported. They end up
sleeping underneath bridges, wandering sidewalks
or panhandling for money.

While cities across the states are banning
panhandling to get the homeless off the street
corners, Dorrell noted it is difficult for them
to find a place to stay. Shelters often limit the
number of times an individual can stay, and other
cities simply do not offer options for the
chronically homeless.

Individuals are forced to find shelter in
abandoned buildings and homes or sleep outside.
Some homeless people travel from town to town
trying to find a way to support themselves
through employment or begging.

In March, two men that attended Dorrell’s Church
Under the Bridge for the homeless died when the
abandoned house they were staying in burned to
the ground. Another of Dorrell’s homeless friends
froze to death one evening under a highway
overpass.

“The irony for Waco is there is literally no
place for them to go,” he said.

Beyond difficulty finding a place to stay, few
places have the resources or facilities to care
for the mentally ill homeless, according to R.B.
Cooper, minister of church and community outreach
at First Baptist Church in San Antonio.

The church’s outreach to homeless people is
partially funded by the Texas Baptist Offering
for World Hunger, facilitated by the Baptist
General Convention of Texas Christian Life
Commission.

Nongovernmental outreaches typically do not have
the funds or trained personnel to provide needed
medication and treatment, Cooper explained. State
institutions have limitations for how long an
individual can stay.

To address substance abuse, the Central Texas
church connects individuals with a local
rehabilitation program. However, about one in 100
homeless people with substance abuse problems is
willing to enter the program, Cooper said. There
seems to be a disconnect between desires and
actions on the part of some homeless, he mourned.

“Many of them say they do [want off the
streets],” he stated. “But saying it and doing
something are two different things.”

Even if they were to get in rehabilitation
programs, only 1 in 30 would become drug or
alcohol free, according to Dorrell.

The statistics are equally bleak when trying to
get the chronically homeless on their feet,
Dorrell indicated. He approximates one-third of
the homeless are physically disabled, and cannot
live off their Supplemental Security Income and a
minimum wage job.

Ministries deal largely with single adults who
comprise two-thirds of the total homeless
population, according to statistics from the
National Resource Center on Homelessness and
Mental Illness web site. Of that portion, 75
percent are men.

Though the number of homeless women and families
is on the rise, women who are threatened with
homelessness often trade sexual favors for
housing, making them “invisible homeless,”
ministers said.

Twenty-three percent of the homeless people are
children younger than 18 with a parent. Forty-two
percent of that segment are children under five.

Some homeless are reluctant to enter any program,
choosing to continue trying to make it on their
own, Dorrell found. The longer they live on the
street, the less likely they are to seek help.

“There are some people out there who would rather
sleep in a field than in a shelter,” Dorrell
commented.

Volunteers continually give of their time,
energy, resources and hearts, but seldom see
someone get off the streets, Dorrell has seen.
They burn out and give up hope, believing the
socio-economic factors are too great to overcome.

Because of the negative connotations, these
ministries have difficulty raising funds. Dorrell
is currently trying to gather money to construct
Waco’s first shelter for the chronically
homeless.

Directors have to alter many Christians’
perceptions of what it means to have a successful
homeless outreach, Dorrell said. While ministry
leaders would like each person to find a home,
success comes in many small steps.

“In the kingdom of God you can’t give up on these
people,” Dorrell commented. “But it’s hard to
convince results-oriented church people of that.
Change may be as small as getting a day labor job
today or finding a safe place to sleep for a few
days.”

Efforts are largely dependent on Christian
businesspeople who are willing to give a homeless
person a job, Dorrell said. A job does not
guarantee a person will get a home, but it gives
them a better chance.

As well as their financial woes, ministers try to
turn around the homeless’ spiritual lives, Cooper
and Dorrell agreed. The outreach itself is an
attempt to change their perception that the
church will not help. Workers commonly speak of
their faith, and devotionals are often given.

Charles Little, a deacon at Cornerstone Baptist
Church in Dallas who feeds the homeless twice a
week, believes the spiritual element is the key
to turning around lives. Without a complete
change in mindset and desires, the homeless will
remain so even if a job is found for them.

“I tell them that I know a lot of you come for
the food because they’re physically hungry,”
Little said. “I tell them that’s OK as long as
they hear the word. We truly believe once they
give their lives to Christ, God will begin to
work in their heat. He will provide the means.”

Dorrell said volunteers build relationships with
the people. A large crowd typically gathers each
Sunday for Church Under the Bridge, a service
tailored toward the homeless. People gather
dressed casually and homeless, ministers and
Baylor University students intermix freely.

“In most cases they have conviction of sin,”
Dorrell reported. “What they don’t have is
self-valuation. They don’t see they are worth
saving.”

While outreaches have many effective ways of
meeting needs, Gerald Davis, consultant in the
BGCT Missions Equipping Center, sees no model
that transforms lives with a high degree of
success. Churches can feed people, but have
nothing to help people get back on their feet
economically.

Job training is a start, but Davis is looking to
create a network of outreaches in cities
statewide that will help churches work together
to rebuild the lives of the homeless. The network
would include feeding, clothing, training,
housing, transitioning, rehabilitating and job
placement.

The process begins with being committed to help
the homeless, he noted. Congregations must
consistently reach out, not come occasionally.
Only a small percentage of churches are involved
in ministering to the homeless.

“The most effective thing is being there for
them,” Davis said. “Let them know you are serious
and sincere about wanting a relationship with
them. Let them know you are serious and sincere
about helping them.”

The ministries will not eliminate homelessness,
but they continue working to transform lives and
find people places to stay. With an increase in
average personal debt and an economy that remains
sluggish despite recent upswings, Dorrell knows
many people are one bad break away from losing
their residences.

“The homeless issue is always at the front door.
It just takes one little thing.”
